29 Weeks

Ok seriously, this picture makes my belly look bigger than it is. I mean, it's big.. but this pic is ridiculous.

Woooah baby belly! Today I'm 29 weeks along and times are a-changin'. Heartburn? Go away! The past 3 days of on and off sleep? Buzz off! Foot and back pains? Get lost! Baby bird's gettin' all sorts of crazy in there and my body's feeling the consequences.

Her height and weight haven't changed much in the past week (though my weight probably has), but the big news is her brain gain! Until now, the surface of her brain was smooth. Now, her brain is taking on those characteristic grooves and indentations which allow for an increased amount of brain tissue- a necessary change as she prepares for life outside the womb and the street smarts she'll need.
Gangsta 4 lyyyfe.

We've almost finished the nursery. Just need a few more accents and the canvases painted. It's bittersweet, really. I don't want it to end, and yet I want it to be finished for baby's arrival.

Last night, D and I had to take some 86 List cds to his bandmate and about a minute into the ride our conversation went something like this:

D: Oh no! Did we bring ______________________?
(I made a ridiculously long space so that you can't even try to figure out how short or long her name is)

Me: Huh?

D: The baby.

Me: What the hell are you talking about? She's inside my body, uhhh yea I think we brought her...

D: Ha ha this is the kind of stuff we'll be saying soon. I'm just testing it out.

Me: ..................... ::gives him the crazy side-eye::

D: What?

Me: Ummm I'm not ever going to forget our baby! You think you are? Why would you think that?!!?!?!?!!!?!??!?!

D: No! I don't think we'll ever actually forget her! I'm just saying we'll be getting used to having her around, so there may come a time where one of us asks that.. like.. before we even leave..

Me: YEA OK ::insert condescending tone::

Now before you all start calling the "Fetus Social Services" on us, check it. We're not going to leave our baby. At least not unattended. D sometimes has a funny way of putting things but he's definitely no "baby leaver behinder." It just cracks me up how little weird convos like this keep coming up. I mean, what the hell have we gotten ourselves into? I know we'll do fine, but this is pretty crazy anticipating it all. Don't you judge me for being honest. I know all you mothers out there had a moment or two of "omg omg omg omg omg" before you popped that baby out! It doesn't change the fact that we're happy and excited about it. It's just gonna be bananas!

Dear baby bird,
Sometimes your parents are ridiculous. This is something you'll just have to get used to because trust me, it's not something that's ever gonna change. One thing that will change is life as we know it. Towing you and all your baby things around, trying not to swear around you, not being able to both take off late at night to drop something off with a friend 'cause you're already sleeping, watching Yo Gabba Gabba instead of Weeds on our instant Netflix, mostly hanging out with a mini human that can't talk or walk instead of partying with our same-height-as-us friends, having relationships with poop/pee/and other bodily fluids unlike we've ever had, being entertained for hours only to realize all we did was stare at someone like a couple of creeps, taking even more pictures than we already do and getting as many external hard drives as needed to house them...
You get the idea. This is going to be quite the adjustment but quite the adventure and we can't wait for you to get here and flip our world upside down.
Love you little rascal,
Ma & Pop
