Some of My Feel-Good Tricks

Sometimes you just have a hard time feeling good about yourself. No amount of compliments could change your mind and you feel so down in the dumps no one could pull you out of it.
Well that's because you are the only one that can pull yourself out of it. We are our own worst enemies and our most nasty critics. It's easy to beat yourself up when you're in the thick of it. But over the years I've learned to recognize it, acknowledge that I'm doing it, and these are my 5 feel-good tricks that I use to battle it:

1. Pretend that you're a celebrity.
-Google image a celeb that you think is gorgeous and has great style, then mimic one of their outfits that you find with the clothes in your closet, hair style, make-up, etc.
-Walk around like your shiz don't stink! Of course this doesn't mean be a diva! Just have confidence. Those positive vibes will help to actually change your perspective about yourself. It's kinda like "fake it till you believe it."

2. Flirt with your significant other like you just started dating.
-Instead of venting to them about how unattractive you "are", fish for compliments from him/her by being flirtatious and positive. No one can give you more of an ego boost than your partner and flirting will definitely bring on the good vibes! Plus they won't know you were feeling down and you won't feel like the compliments are "just to be nice and make you feel better" like you might feel if you invited them to your pity party. Genuine is always best.

3. Write down the things that you aren't liking about yourself in that moment.
-Now crumble that paper and throw it away/burn it/step on it/shred it... get rid of it! Now write in all caps what things you love about yourself and frame it/blog about it/write a song about it/hang it/make a shrine for it... remember it!

4. Make a change.
- It can be big or small. Dye or cut your hair. Never wear lipstick? Wear it. Haven't worked out in a while? Go for a brisk walk. Sick of doing household chores? Spend one day NOT doing them (your life will not fall apart). When baby's asleep, paint your nails instead of tidying up or curl your hair instead of wearing it in a pony tail. Dance to your favorite music while you're getting ready. Want to be a writer? Write something! Want to play guitar? Start a savings jar to put extra change into for a guitar. Basically, take baby steps towards becoming the version of yourself that you dream about. It doesn't have to be overnight, and I find that when I do a little of something that makes me feel like I'm progressing towards what I ultimately want, it feels really uplifting. Doing things you love also attributes to the way you see yourself physically!

5. Remember what's important.
-Feeling good about the way you look definitely may help how you feel but at the end of the day, don't take it too seriously! If you have fun with it and turn it into a positive thing, great! But if it only stresses you out more, remember what really matters. Love, be loved, and love yourself for who you are, not what you look like. The fun in "looking good" (whatever that means to you) is only meant to be an extra boost in life. Not your whole life! Go hang out with friends or family to remind you of what really makes for a happy life, and I'm sure the love you get in return will be the best ego boost of all.

  2. <3 You always have the best advice. I actually thought to myself last night that I needed a change and I want to dye my hair. Maybe I will tonight after baby goes to bed.

  7. What a great post :)

I love #2. I find I always do this when I am having a "down day". I'll put on something I know my hubby loves on me and just the look he gives me can pick me right back up again.

  8. These are great tips - it's so important to be able to keep things in perspective, even when you're feeling your worst. It's easy to turn to bad/destructive habits when you're down in the dumps [heh, I've been known to trade my daily fresh fruit for a cupcake or two... or three if it's a really bad day] but then you just feel worse and get this awful cycle started!

    Thanks for sharing :)
